Will be my 1-year anniversary on Mastodon and the fediverse in June. Been that long since I left Reddit.

But I still feel very much like a noob. For example, I have a hard time grasping why I can’t sign into my Mastodon profile (https://lemmy.world/u/Hyphlosion@donphan.social ) on lemmy. There’s obviously a profile of my posts, so why can’t I sign into it on lemmy and use it?

Your local Zero Sugar, Meatatarian, Johtoker. I love everything Johto, not just the older stuff. I’m here for the chill vibes and to have a good time. Billy O’nares refer to me as “A commoner with gumption.” My microblog series: #KillingMeWithCuteness [https://donphan.social/tags/KillingMeWithCuteness] #SleepDreamTeam [https://donphan.social/tags/SleepDreamTeam]

@Hyphlosion you would have to create a Lemmy account. You wouldn't want your password to be synced across anyways. SSO would be possible, but then the software has to worry about mirroring your posts/comments back to your home instance so that people following you will receive them, but then the format of the content won't match the other software. Easier to just make a Lemmy account. You can also follow Lemmy communities using Mastodon, just search for it like @communityname@instancename
@Hyphlosion what you were thinking of is called nomadic accounts, which is a feature that ActivityPub (the Fediverse) does not currently have.
