I was truly hoping that the new PBS program A Brief History of the Future would be uplifting, despite it being financed by one of the Murdoch family members and Drake. I was naive. I watched the first few minutes of it, and it was a montage of past successes and fantasy-- images of Marty McFly on a hoverboard, Steve Balmer doing his “Developers" thing... The host spoke about how he used to long for the advances promised in the nineties and 00's-- how we were supposed to be working less and doing more. And then…. he said something like "But something happened, or didn't happen, and that future never really showed up”.

I had to turn it off. Greed happened. And the billionaires paying their fair share of taxes while they made vast fortunes off the backs of the working class didn't happen.

I suspect this show is going to be more propaganda from the wealthy class, trying to make us feel hopeful while they continue to rape the planet and the working class.

I'll give it the episode, maybe two, but the first few minutes left a pretty bad taste in my mouth.

The show proclaims itself to be a “protopian story” -- a nonsense word that's the opposite of a dystopian story, and not quite utopian.
