Certainly.

But the ones that really worry me are the ones that have a foot in both worlds. How the hell can a brain take that level of dissonance and not catch fire?

@jhoward @angusm - I have a sister who is a born-again Christian and all that entails about taking every word in the Bible literally, and who was until her retirement a University botanist (who seems to gloss over evolutionary biology). Cognitive dissonance personified.

I'm sorry, that sounds terrible. Both having a loved one in that sort of spell. But also taking the bible literally. I've read that book, it has some pretty awful parts. I can't imagine using it as a literal daily rule book. Doubly so if I were a woman.
