Taking the #Amtrak #NorthEastRegional #train from NYC to DC this random Monday afternoon and its 9 cars are 💯 *sold out*.
Gone are the days when I would have a ticket and jump on the next train with no change fees. Trains are now full.

Biden said feds should use rail over air…
But is it us making it crowded? (Anyone analyzed this?)

@atthenius I remember being baffled by the idea of all the Amtrak seats being booked, and them not allowing people to buy a ticket to stand for the same price. That’s normal across the rest of the world. Needed to beg wife to drive me to Newark from New Haven.

@cmbrierley

I miss the flexibility of changing my train ticket. It took away a good chunk of the stress of travel.

For that drive:: Oof.

That’s a BIG (lots of traffic, not so bad distance) drive depending on how you went.

I guess if you were in no hurry New Jersey transit plus a subway/little walk plus a Metro North ticket could have gotten you there with no car. But not very convenient if you’ve got bags.
