Mother Suspiria 

We watched THE INNOCENTS (2021) last night and while I thought it was a solid horror film, I am somewhat bewildered at the 97% on RT. I'd give it a 90% - it was a unique premise, certainly full of horror, and the kids were great in it. But it wasn't a near masterpiece.

(Note that the horror contains some truly appalling animal death, so don't watch it if that's going to traumatize you.)

@SnerkRabbledauber @horror Not typically, but a 90 versus a 97 is a big deal. If 100% is the ultimate review, a 97% should be a very, very good movie. Something memorable and unique that stays with you, or a technical marvel, etc.

I loved it. It doesn't romanticise childhood, but soberly shows the willingness and above all the ability of children to be creatively cruel and deceitful. Uncomfortable and frightening. An unforgettable film for me.

@YayForThat @horror Yeah, it definitely shows all that and I appreciated it, but I guess I'm too soberly aware of kids' potential for cruelty to find that really unique or memorable. It was more like, "Oh, yeah, of course they're little shits. Ugh, I remember kids like that & I'm glad I was nothing like those little demons." 😂

I'm not at all surprised that kids can be cruel, but it's rare that it's portrayed in such a straightforward way. Also, there were those children who stood up to exactly this evil that is inherent in all children. I thought this concept was really well and disturbingly realised. The kids are our future. And we may have no idea how much they are already deciding all our fates.

@Well_Worth_A_Read @horror It's a part of the plot/character development midway through and it is very disturbing; I am not "okay" with simulated animal cruelty, but I'm not usually truly traumatized by it... But this one bothered me a lot. So... Yeah.

@stina_marie @horror I will have to skip it. I have DNFd books because of animal torture and I think seeing it would be even harder than reading it
