Donald Trump just posted an image of Joe Biden tied up in the back of a pickup as though he’d been kidnapped.

This has become a popular sticker for the backs of MAGA folks’ vehicles.

And in normal times, it would have resulted in a referral to the FBI — and the Secret Service.

@tristansnell when an insurrectionist traitor goes totally unpunished, this sort of thing becomes normal.
@tristansnell Current US allies are watching
@tristansnell Is this even legal? A former POTUS inciting the mob to inflict violence on the current POTUS? Stochastic terrorism at the highest level.

@JonChevreau

It is a crime, though I don't plan on looking up the statute. That's why Kathy Griffiths got to spend time chatting with the Secret Service back when.

I was furious then with the people who complained about that at the time. And, yes, I think if Donald Trump has posted any such thing he should be hauled in for his own Secret Service interview.

@tristansnell

@JonChevreau

So, I did in fact look it up.

First, yes Trump did post the picture.

Second, here is the Wiki re threatening the POTUS

@JonChevreau @tristansnell if there is one thing Chump has taught us, it’s that concepts like “legal” and “laws” don’t mean what we all thought they meant.

@tristansnell in Brazil we saw a worse thing: the extreme right wing during the preparation for the coup d'État to throw Dilma Rousseff away from the presidency, they shared A LOT online pictures of huge stickers in cars of her with her legs spread and in the supposed location of her vagina was the place where people inserte the gas filler in the car. 🤢🤮🤬

In some cities we never saw cars with this ABERRATION, but online was everywhere.

@tristansnell I want to know why the fuck it isn't. Are we just going to let the rule of law die in the corner with a whimper and a despairing gasp?
@tristansnell Or in any normal juristiction, it would get people a friendly ring on the doorbell with police reminding them that they've seen that shit and that if anything like that happens, they'll come back with a warrant for one...

@Edelruth @tristansnell

While it appears that the US Code applies and a case could be made, who would need to indict Trump, Merrick Garland? Good luck with that one!

@tristansnell Counselor, why haven’t the trial judges he’s threatened ordered him to undergo a psychiatric evaluation? Wouldn’t that be the proper procedure with a dangerous defendant who continually defied court orders?

It’s likely he’s too ill to comply—that would be good to know officially!

@tristansnell At this point I wouldn't put anything past Trump, nobody is even trying to stop him..

@knittingknots2 says that scholars believe that DHS can fire head of secret service if they do not arrest Trump.

"Political science scholar Tim Hogan said that, if the Secret Service "does nothing about Trump's violation of federal law making a threats against the POTUS [the Department of Homeland Security] head should fire the director of Secret Service and refer the matter to the DOJ for charges. Because Trump is out on bail, he should likely be held pending trial." "Trump should be in custody," he added." https://www.rawstory.com/trump-biden-imagery-revoke-bail/

@tristansnell I wonder how many Maga followers are in the ranks of those organizations
@metaphase @tristansnell You’ve put your finger on the problem.
@tristansnell I haven't seen the image, not going near Lies Antisocial to see it, but there was recently a post on Reddit of a pickup truck with a decal on the rear that depicted the same.
