Almost a year and a half since I posted this, and it’s still truer than ever.

It’s an especially lonely feeling when things have seemingly gone well. Feels like a dirty secret I’m hiding. Yeah sure that bug/exploit was cool or whatever, but what no one knows is it’s last one I’ll ever find!!

@chompie1337 the only thing worse (and better) than doing vuln research is doing vuln research in public. That rollercoaster is harsh.
@chompie1337
May your bugs be plentiful and exploitable in interesting ways.
@chompie1337 I think it's not quite as extreme for me, but I do repeatedly get to a point where I'm like "shit, I'm washed up, I need to get ahead again".
@siguza yea lol, I say “that’s it I’m washed” to myself frequently
@chompie1337 @siguza same but for me its actually true and ill never find another bug again
@gabe_k @chompie1337 @siguza I haven’t found a bug in like 5 years and nobody’s noticed yet
@chompie1337 it won’t change … I am 49 now and still think “is it next year when I cannot keep up anymore?”. Never underestimate the experience you gain the longer you work in the field. Nobody is able to do everything. Specializing became a must 15-20 years ago and it only drives further this direction every year.
@chompie1337 actually true for me tho wtf

@chompie1337 I’ve been hacking for 25+ years with many ups and downs and different kinds of streak. I always had my imposter syndrome to keep me company.

Then, last year I finally got cured! All it took was meeting a young, famous world class researcher that I would put in the current top three, and learning that he was my biggest fan and that my work inspired him (and his mentor!) to become what he is.

The circle of life goes on. You’re already an inspiration for many, even if you don’t know it ✊

@raptor @chompie1337

Way to be, Marco. 🙂👍

It’s true. You can be an expert and still feel like your never arrive. Because you don’t.

As you pointed out, Chompie, because it’s a process. Keep your growth mindset, let your curiosity lead, and you’ll continue to do well. 🙂

@raptor @chompie1337 at least for me, the feeling of not being good enough is also what drives me to learn and try stuff.
@chompie1337 i feel this too. every year, I feel stupider, more self conscious, and more imposter syndrome than the last. I try to just focus on myself and my progress, rather than compare against others
@chompie1337 Hope you''ll be able for many more years to go :)
