Fewer people using Elon Musk’s X as it struggles to keep users

The number of people using X daily is falling, more than a year after tech billionaire Elon Musk bought the app formerly known as Twitter.

NBC News

@taylorlorenz It's interesting that they ALL seem to be on a decline (though a much smaller one than X/Twitter) over the last year.

I wonder, Is there a decrease in social media usage in general? A change in how people are using social media (not on their phones), or a migration to other platforms not listed on this graph, like Mastadon, reddit, lemmy, etc?

@austinphilp @taylorlorenz

Definitely not Reddit. Mastodon, yes.

@RodneyPetersonTalent @taylorlorenz While I'd like this to be true, Mastadon's active user count has also seen a slight decline in 2023 similar to those of the Non-X social media platforms.

According to https://mastodon-analytics.com/ we started 2023 with about 1.8million users and started 2024 with about 1.5million

Though I'm not sure how accurate mastadon-analytics is - I'm open to other sources if they show otherwise

Mastodon Analytics

How many users, active users, servers are on Mastodon?

Mastodon Analytics

the site says they use the official numbers from https://api.joinmastodon.org/statistics

other sources show similar numbers for the complete fediverse, where mastodon is a big part of
