@dbsalk @neilhimself @bookstodon another anthology book is Stories - All New Tales Edited by Neil Gaiman and Al Sarrantonio. It's a great collection of short stories, too! And Weights and Measures written by Jodie Picoult is not for the faint of heart (not in a scary way, but more on a "I don't know what to do if I lose a loved one" kind of way). Oh and always read his introduction.
@seanwildz Thanks for the rec! There ARE some solid authors in that one. Stewart O'Nan (who I talked to on the phone once; he was very pleasant), Joe Hill, and Jeffrey Denver are the ones that jump out at me.
I don't read a ton of short story collections, but I'm rarely disappointed when I do. Also, I like that if there's a story that's not great, I can DNF it and move on to the next without feeling too guilty. I would probably skip the contribution by Chuck Palahniuk. 🤣
