German mathematician Emmy Noether was born #OTD in 1882.

One of her most significant contributions is Noether's Theorem, which establishes a fundamental connection between symmetries & conservation laws in physics. This theorem has had profound implications in fields such as quantum mechanics, particle physics & field theory. Despite facing discrimination as a woman in academia during her time, Noether persevered & made enduring contributions to mathematics and physics.

@gutenberg_org "One of her most significant contributions"?? Noether's Theorem is the *most* significant contribution in *all* of physics, and she certainly isn't better than all physicists – given that she's a physicist – so it's also her most significant contributions.

@zvavybir @gutenberg_org I think it has more to do with the fact that she also had incredibly important contributions in mathematics. So I think stating it that way is correct, even though it's possible to read it as downplaying her contribution to physics.
