Don't write generic descriptions for alt text. "Screenshot of a news article" might technically describe an image, but it does nothing to convey the information or context sighted users get from the image. People who can't see the image need the same information and context.
Don't describe the kind of data a graph may present. E.g.: "This graph shows how [whatever] developed during the last five years."
Essentially, this tells the readers very precisely what information they are NOT given.
So also describe the data itself, not just the kind. To actually describe the [whatever] development over the last five years in words may not be easy, but is exactly what that graph description task is about. (Only five data points? Give those numbers!)
