Voter ID

There is a new requirement to take photo ID to some elections in England, Scotland and Wales.

@stephenwhq Our electoral authority was on top of this and sent out postal re-registration forms to us. Is this not normal or were you just reminding folks it's not a one-off thing?
@stephenwhq voting is very important, not just because you are choosing a political party, but because all the politicians can see where people voted and will put more effort into those areas where they can get more votes. As you expect, poorer and younger areas tend not to vote
@stephenwhq Thanks for this. I am a postal voter and this is the first time I've heard about the need to reapply, and prove my identity, when I do so. Voter suppression is the only way to describe this.
@Cycling_Liz @stephenwhq I don't see anything on that site about postal voters being required to re-apply. That said, it seems like they're punting it to local council electoral officers, who may require this in some areas.
@spacehobo @stephenwhq If you go to the page where you actually apply for the postal vote, it tells you there.

@stephenwhq Thanks for posting this, I'd already registered for postal but I suspect I wouldn't have gotten one as I hadn't re-registered and uploaded my signature.

Now I'm worried that I have to not only sign my vote card, but they will then match it against the one on file, and reject if it doesn't match? Do we know exactly why they want signatures?

@stephenwhq
As soon a I could I ordered my free Voter Authority Certificate. I have no other from of photo ID.
If you are already registered to vote you simply fill in an online form with your name, address, dob and national insurance number. You then upload a selfie which has a couple of rules to make it a compliant picture.
I got mine within about couple of days. It is nothing fancy, a couple of colour printed pages with a photo and details on it.

@stephenwhq

Also, just plain REGISTER to vote.

So many of my daughter's university peers can't be bothered. No wonder no political party is interested in promising 18-24s any kind of break in life.
