Kris#writerscoffeeclub Do I ever regret killing a character, or the manner of their death?
I'm normally pretty deliberate about character deaths in my stories so I wouldn't use the word 'regret'... but, I have been sad to kill them off many times.

I think it depends on the character and/or how they passed on. Some of them can be rather sad, and others, not so much. There were several that hit a nerve a bit, and you couldn't help but feel sad, not only for them, but for those around them. Then, there are the times where it doesn't hit so hard. I've been working on a story about one of my characters meeting his end. Let's just say that he has it coming and he'll be reaping a lot of what he's sown.

@myhauger That's true, I was specifically thinking of supporting characters I've had to kill off for one reason or another. I typically find myself writing them a life so they have dreams and ambitions I can communicate to the reader so that death matters but I always end up falling for them in the end

Same here, though some more than others. When something bad happens to certain ones, I end up feeling sad for them, even if it's not necessarily a death situation. It could be something they dealt with in their past, or something they're really concerned about. This is definitely the case for my main character, who has been through a lot, including multiple losses, betrayals, and a troubled past.

With all of that, comes the things that trigger him, and he is not afraid to step in and stop any injustices that are being done to those that are close by. Also, he is a bit of a hot head at times, which makes it even worse for the ones committing the offending acts.
