man, I really don't understand why anyone would use Earth Engine for anything they want to exist long-term

this isn't meant to be a non-sequitur, it's just the latest example of Google shutting down what I'd consider to be a relatively core offering (this is the default podcast app on Pixels)

the better example here is the time they increased Maps pricing by 14x overnight

@MikeMahoney218 yep, and Earth Engine feels like possibly a very expensive thing for them to keep running, I can very easily imagine them making it vanish suddenly.
@jimbob @MikeMahoney218 I know at least two remote sensing courses are heavily using it here. I see why instructors like it. Spending the first couple of weeks in class doing tech troubleshooting or getting students to a somewhat similar base level of computer science skill really sucks if you are teaching a non CS course.
@mpschramm @MikeMahoney218 oh it's absolutely great (felt like magic to me when I first used it, could not understand how it could technically do what it does). But Google has a history here, the internet is littered with the corpses of cool, useful things that Google once created.
@MikeMahoney218 do you mean Google in general? They’ve killed so many things that people really loved,
