Movement Call w. Reps. Jamie Raskin & Liz Holtzman on the NYC Trump Election Interference Trial · Not Above the Law
Join Representative Jamie Raskin and former Congresswoman Elizabeth Holtzman - one of the first members of the Judiciary Committee to support starting impeachment proceedings against Nixon - along with Praveen Fernandes from the Constitutional Accountability Center, Tishan Weerasooriya from Standup America and Jonah Minkoff-Zern from Public Citizen we prepare for the beginning of the New York City trial of Donald Trump for his interference in the 2016 election. Despite what Donald Trump and his allies may claim, no one is above the law—including a former president charged with multiple serious crimes. Upholding the Constitution and the rule of law is a cornerstone of our democracy. That’s why an overwhelming majority of Americans (89 percent) agree that when elected officials break the law we must hold them accountable—whether citizen, candidate, or president. From paying off people to keep voters from learning of his scandals in a blatant attempt to interfere with the election, to inciting a deadly insurrection on January 6, 2021, to threatening our national security by illegally retaining classified documents and obstructing justice, Donald Trump has repeatedly jeopardized American democracy by stoking chaos and disorder—and he’s an even worse threat today. While Trump and his allies have sought to delay accountability at every turn, most recently by appealing to his allies on the Supreme Court, there’s still time to bring criminal cases against Trump to trial before November—and that’s what the American people deserve.
