Subversion was a huge improvement on the contemporary incumbent (CVS).

But today, Subversion is awful compared to any of today's VCS systems.

(People might laud Subversion's command-line or metaphors. They might be more familiar, but no, those suck too, for today's needs.)

I agree with Linus Torvalds, that "SVN is CVS done right." And that CVS was a bad idea.

So if you're on CVS, SVN is *a great upgrade*!!! Like, you'd be *crazy NOT to do it*!

But it's a "bad idea, done right." Much better to "make a break" and switch to something *much better*.

How would I know?
Well, I have experience all the way back to RCS. (,.. which came before CVS, of course. 🙄 )

@bignose as someone still using CVS and RCS (having learnt them with a git background), yeah basically.
