I will never understand how people who aren’t single manage that moment of tossing and turning to fall asleep where you make a giant blanket snow angel that takes up the entire bed, which never ends up being The Comfortable Sleeping Position, yet is an wholly necessary intermediate step. It genuinely sounds awful.
@hacks4pancakes I was thinking this only the other night whilst performing my usual insomnia-fueled bed gymnastics

@hacks4pancakes
Since separate blankets, beds, and rooms have been covered:

A divided king size bed. And different sleep schedules.

@hacks4pancakes Not being single often also results in the added complexity of sharing the bed with an undefined number of kids.
@hacks4pancakes Expert mode: Half the bed is already occupied by cats, so both of you have to find ways to sleep around them.
@maswan @hacks4pancakes Reminds me of the bedtime ritual of our old cat. He would try and lie down next to me right after I got into bed. After a few minutes of me moving around trying to get comfortable, he would get up, walk over both pillows and both our heads, and lie down next to my wife for the rest of the night. Every single night.
@hacks4pancakes my wife usually goes to bed a few hours after I’m asleep, so I can comfortably practice the art of blanket snow angel without interruption :)
@hacks4pancakes
There are two survivable options: the nudge-n-snuggle; or separate beds. There is no in between - and the nudge-n-snuggle gets difficult with age due to "now *I'm* awake, they are asleep, and I can't move or I will now wake *them* back up and start the process all over" cycle.

@hacks4pancakes yeah, the five pillows on the bed that are in a slightly different position every night are *essential*

The cat… is a challenge.

@hacks4pancakes well first I’d have to move the 75 pound dog out of the way … so more tossing and turning it is.
@hacks4pancakes When I wasn't single, additional pillows were used by my partner instead of the snow angel method.
Luckily I don't need any of that 99.9% of the time. Just lay down on my back, asleep a few minutes after. It's been a real blessing with my broken collarbone at the moment, where this is the only way I can even lay down.
@hacks4pancakes We use the grandpa bed that's basically a recliner, but not. There's no making snow angels when you're folded like a taco...
@hacks4pancakes oh we do exactly the same thing, but getting tangled up in a person instead of blankets.
@hacks4pancakes I am always too hot. My wife is always too cold. So she has all the blankets on her half and is any stay my way I push them back, so the demarcation stays fairly even.
