Anyone have experience with #lora #meshtastic ? My club is considering putting a node on an old tower. What do you like about it? How do you use it? Thanks! #hamradio
@km5ge Cool question - it's another way to communicate - you will need and app on a smart phone but it allows messages to move through a mesh network - if using 913 mhz allows encryption if on ham frequencies (433 mhz) not... go to https://meshtastic.org/
Meshtastic

An open source, off-grid, decentralized mesh network built to run on affordable, low-power devices

@km5ge Another question.. why are they not looking at ARDEN instead for the club tower:

@km5ge non-ham here. Been playing with Meshtastic on a couple Heltec V3’s for a few weeks. Very fun, and cheap. You could mount a solar node for less than $100.
@km5ge for me it's the cheap hardware and tinkering with things.
