Made in DNAI think @durf @durf once informed me about the legalities of sharing translations, but that was years ago. I'm interested in sharing an essay by Mamoru Oshii that I translated for Brian Ruh's book that was never used. Not the original text, just the translation, and NOT for money. It would be shared as part of a post I want to write about kanji. Does anyone know if my ass is covered legally, or if I should steer clear altogether?
Kangaeroo@DNA strictly speaking, legally, you need permission from the owner. I think sharing it as part of the post would depend on how much you used. Practically, you'd be fine to use it, I think. (Until you're not, of course (which was my experience and suddenly found myself in trouble for 20 years of copyright violations)).
