Repeat after me: Return To Office is a bullshit policy, put in place by *weak leaders* who value an illusion of control over productivity and employee well-being.

I'm very lucky because I can choose where I work, and today I could and would choose a lower pay and less prestigious company over a big tech with RTO policy. I'm double lucky because Square is great and without stupid RTO.

Repost if no RTO will be a deciding factor in your job search going forward 😘

@py For example my company just released a large and arguably the best area of our office, because it was underused. So now we're a bit more packed when we want to go to the office. But I think that is totally fair, economically better and also better for the environment. That being said, my company allows 100% remote work if you want. I think enforcing RTO because it costs companies money is a rather weak argument in a free market economy environment.
@py I'm not too keen on top down mandates although in my own case it is the top down "must work remote" (in this case, closing the only office within 40 miles of my house) mandate which bit me personally.
@py I've been remote for 12 years. I'm not opposed to going to an office, but I doubt that any local company will ever pay me what I'm worth. Me going to an office has nothing to do with productivity and everything to do with wanting to be social with people. I would probably be less productive in an office.
@py You _can_ pay me enough to RTO, you can also pay me way less to work for a truly remote first company
@py Unfortunately in my company, it entirely depends on the EM in the organisation. Some groups have progressive EMs, and other groups don't.
