Spending $190🇺🇸 (174€ / £148🇬🇧 / ¤1980🇳🇴) on a fully modded #Casio 3298 module† probably sounds a little excessive but it is actually hard to find a retro styled, steel cased, LCD digital watch with sapphire crystal, so that is what I paid yesterday.
† The 3298 module is the one in the A-168W, F-105W, and W-86 series watches (any one of these costs ≅$21🇺🇸). Functionality wise it is just like that found in the famous F-91W, albeit with the superior “Illuminator™” backlighting.
I will do a wrist check for you on arrival but in the mean time this will give you some idea as this is the exact combo I went for in the end.
And yes Casio have the A1100 and A1000, which are both fully steel but only the “rag & bone” variants of the latter have sapphire crystal and those were priced at $250🇺🇸, while something like a Tissot PRX Digital costs $400🇺🇸. A full metal “square” G-Shock digital is priced even higher. So while not a bargain, it might not be as full on crazy as it initially sounds. 🤷🏼
[I also prefer the look of the modded Casio to any of the other watches I mentioned above.]
