"Associated Press and Reuters have publicly released instructions not to use the photo saying it had been manipulated "at source"."

Presumably that's because someone forgot to include her engagement/marriage rings on her digitally added hand 🙄

Princess of Wales: Agencies recall first image of Kate since surgery

The image, released by Kensington Palace, shows the Princess of Wales with her three children but some noticed an unusual element.

@Phil_Tanner It's the left hand of Princess Charlotte, seen in this photo on the right, that has been digitally altered. The Guardian has a more detailed photo (see link below) showing the alteration. Whether this is sinister :-) or not, is another question, but the photo has definitely been altered.

@paulhellyer @Phil_Tanner I see what you did there Paul #LatinJokes 😁
@essjax @Phil_Tanner Hehe. I'm glad you noticed!
@Phil_Tanner @essjax We are such well-educated folk here on Mastodon 🧐

@paulhellyer that's really interesting. Definitely would've called Catherine's hands as being digitally added regardless, and the lack of rings, as the reason for the withdrawal... Not sure I would've spotted the additional thumb visible in Charlotte's hands...

I'm still calling shenanigans on their reason for pulling it tho 😂

@Phil_Tanner It's usually cock-up rather than conspiracy, but you have to think someone would be keeping an eye on such things, especially given the length of time since Kate hasn't been seen in the public eye. Her staff must have known the photo would be examined in minute, forensic detail. You would think they would get such details right. Clearly not.

@paulhellyer oh, yeah, absolutely no malice where stupidity can explain.

I just mean I think what happened is they digitally added the hands, forgot the rings, realised they forgot the rings, scrambled to find another reason to pull it without admitting they'd overlooked something as obvious as the rings, Charlotte's hands also not quite perfect was the opportunity.

But then, maybe I'm just being uncharitable?
