When #Irish Prime Minister Leo #Varadkar fails to bring liberal and progressive changes to the Irish Constitution, that signals a society that will put #MichelleONeill of #SinnFein in her constitutionally mandated place — in the home and kitchen— if a reunion were to happen between #Ireland and #NorthernIreland. It’s the only thing the #Catholic patriarchal government understands.

If passed, #Ireland would have evolved from conservative Catholic to liberal.

Irish voters reject constitutional amendment about women's role in home

Opponents argued that the wording of the changes was poorly thought out and some voters said they feared changes would lead to unintended consequences.

@rameshgupta @Nochem he is owning the failur, but I am reading “voters”. Seems the Irish people chose the outcome, no?

Yes, of course, it is the voters, and that’s what I meant. It was not an executive decision. It was defeated in a vote, and it clearly shows the attitudes of a society aa a whole, as opposed to those of an extremist or charismatic leader.

The #Irish are not ready for #MichelleONeill, even though she might be ready for a reunion with #Ireland. She represents the catholic separatists yearning to split away from #UK.
