The quiet, pervasive devaluation of frontend

I keep noticing those of us in the frontend field being treated much the same as nurses, paralegals, and executive assistants. Our work is seen as important, certainly, but just not the same as, or as important as, the “real” work.

@collinsworth My previous software engineering company just laid off and transferred two-thirds of their frontend engineers after telling us in December that 1) there were too many of us and 2) sales was regularly spinning up new teams without frontend engineers because clients didn't understand the value of what we did. Of course that means sales didn't understand the value of what we did and couldn't sell it.
@thefinley And yet, nowhere will you find salespeople being laid off because developers don't understand the value of what they do.
