The CDC says you can go back to normal life a day after your symptoms improve. The White House knows you're still infectious and doesn't want you to visit for ten days.

Protect those around you from #COVID19 as if they're just as important as someone who works in the White House.

@augieray White House website: “The White House will continue to closely monitor the COVID-19 situation with guidance based on recommendations from the CDC, and other public health officials and medical experts, and reserves the right to adjust availability of the public tours as necessary to adhere to the latest health guidance.

NOTE

Within the 10 days prior to the public tour, anyone who has tested positive for COVID-19, has had any COVID-19 symptoms, or been in close contact with someone confirmed or suspected to have COVID-19, should stay home.

Face masks will be available when entering the White House complex for those who choose to wear them.”

@nuthatch Thanks. I neglected to do the ALT text. I'll do that now!

@augieray You should check out and add to the hashtag #CDCSays

@augieray

The sheer hypocrisy of the White House. Infuriating. 😡

@augieray It looks as if we have the real answer instead of the corporate-lobbied one. #CDC #Covid19 #PublicHealth #4yearsPandemic
@augieray The CDC said it’s ok to return to your work/school/etc 24 hours after both symptoms get better and fever breaks, from what I read. This makes sense to me: people are more immune now, vaccines and treatments like Paxlovid are more widely available, there is more hospital space available if needed, etc. The difference between CDC and WH is not surprising — there are other conditions the WH asks not to be introduced into the quite intimate WH environment — and speaks to the independence of the CDC from White House direction, which is a good thing. You can still choose to stay home for 10 days after the last symptoms and fever reading, and school systems and workplaces can still establish their more stringent policies. Why you choose to vilify the White House on this is a mystery to me.
@pattonadams People are more immune, but they are not significantly immune. Immunuty fades, and less than a quarter of Americans got the latest booster. The problem is that the CDC (and you) continue to focus on severe disease and hospitalization when we've known now for years the biggest issue is repeat infections and Long COVID. The latest Household Pulse survey showed an INCREASE in people with Long COVID as of January. We should be taking more care to prevent risks from reinfections.

@pattonadams If you'd like to get better informed on the risks (so that you don't criticize people like me wondering why the White House wishes to protect their employees and not everyone else's), here you go:

The CDC Weakened CDC Guidance Yet Again. Data and Research Tells Us the CDC is Absolutely Wrong.

The WSJ headline reports, “It’s Official: We Can Pretty Much Treat Covid Like the Flu Now.” You know what you won't find in that article? Number of flu deaths for the entire 2022-2023 season : 21,000 Number of COVID deaths in just the past 3 months : 21,000 Number hospitalized with fl

@augieray @pattonadams Thanks, I'll do some more reading

@augieray for someone who writes well, that guy’s reading comprehension is shocking.

Or maybe they’re being wilfully stupid.

Either way, blocked. I don’t need covid denial actors in my feed.

Thanks for the rebuttal, Augie!

@pattonadams @augieray They’re vilifying the CDC. Because supposed immunity and vaccines don’t prevent long Covid. They also don’t prevent passing it on to the immune compromised. Also, Paxlovid is not that easy to get.

While companies *may* put in more stringent policies, it won’t be restaurants or other service-oriented workplaces.

COVID is airborne. It’s also a vascular disease. We can’t treat it like the flu.

@augieray fantastic context to summarize the new guidelines, thanks for sharing.
@augieray This has the same energy as "no guns allowed at NRA events".
@augieray
"Clinton turned the Democrats into Republicans and the Republicans into crazy."
@jwz
@augieray I was still testing positive 12 days into COVID. And was still symptomatic. The CDC is wrong! @Tbsa
@Bwheatnyc @augieray Terribly and dangerously wrong.

@augieray yeah, but they're also saying "should" stay home, it's not required and they're not checking.

As much as I like dunking on the CDC this seems more in line with lots of webpages and physical signs in public that are out of date and people didn't take them seriously in the first place so they're also not taking them seriously enough to update them.
