I am completely and totally not oversimplifying. It’s literally Boomers in the Hood. Just watch. You’ll see. To the point where I’m side-eyeing John Singleton in his grave and going, well, at least you changed the setting.

But seriously this is so fascinating. This February I have been able to learn about so many things that are older than I thought! Blows my fucking mind!

Another experience I had that was similar to what I went through watching “Cooley High” was the time I watched “The Last American Virgin” with a friend of mine. Both of us were yelling at the screen, going “fuck you, movie! you were supposed to be a dumb sex comedy not a bait-and-switch meditation on the horrors of adolescent betrayal HOW DARE YOU!”

Either way I was LULLED, LULLED into a false sense of security! I bow down to the amazing storytelling of Eric Monte and Michael Schultz. The progenitor of so many tropes, yet so achingly open and sincere that, like the characters, I never saw the tragedy coming.
