First signs of #spring on the seashore. Some mergansers, goldeneyes and whooper swans in the open water, soon there will be a lot more.
Also saw an Eurasian three-toed woodpecker (in the company of a treecreeper), always delights me because you don’t see them too often.
Here’s a small video of a three-toed woodpecker, not the guy I saw today but from another place and another year. They are so careful and thoughtful when working on a tree, pausing to listen for bugs as they go about it. Even the sound of pecking is very different from a great spotted woodpecker, which just bang at the pine cone.
