Do not spin flax during the Twelve Nights of Christmas, for this will invite the Devil to visit you.

@juergen_hubert @germany @folklore I once found myself in a Wikipedia rabbit hole that passed through the Wild Hunt and led on to Perchta who I was unfamiliar with. The punishments around spinning can be quite severe! Kids would have their bellies cut open by Perchta and stuffed with straw and rocks if they didn’t spin all their flax and wool which is way more harsh than Santa bringing a lump of coal instead of a toy if you’ve been bad. It’s such a fascinating peek at an aspect of life before fast fashion existed, you had to make your own thread and finish the work in time or risk major consequences! I’ve been intrigued by stories about spinning ever since learning about Perchta, it was fun to read about the Devil taking over the work here.
