N1 Wednesday

Sure, there were a few exciting moments and the make-up (quickie) sex of the last four songs. But overall a fairly uninspired set with fairly uninspired play. The good news is this is par for the course when the band tries to play a single-set show, and the next 3 nights are all standard two-setters.

The only question about last night’s ranking is best show since ___? This assumes you put an asterisk on NYE.

Add up the improv, factor in the quality of the WoH, throw in no S2 downtime & I’m putting it ahead of anything from 2023. This includes the Greek Tweezer->Simple show and all the MSGs. It’s probably better than anything from 2022 though I’ve blocked most memories from those tours. Maybe Shoreline21? A masterpiece.

I need to relisten to a few versions, but I’d be shocked if last night isn’t the 🐐 CDT—which is incredible given how many legendary versions there are.

Best back-to-back shows since Shoreline 21, and I bet that band sounds like ass vs this one.

One of the best shows of 4.0, and it pains me to put it below a <gap>, but it just doesn’t have the horsepower to keep up with Thursday despite the superior Q1.

@chopaganda Dust feels like one of the best jams I’ve ever heard from them. As fresh sounding as it gets. I get the full show point of view but the Dust>SoS is so next level that at a minimum no gap needed. Equal to N2. I’d eve say the Dust was so great it elevates N3 to top spot. Also loved the first set. Missing the deep dive of Birds>Axilla but still strong.
@spreaditround Eh. The Wave of Hope from N1 was pretty incredible, and it just has so much more. The gap just means there is clear differentiation. While no gap means it’s easy to argue one show over the other. Funny bc last has a case for best show of any of the last several tours.
@chopaganda I like the Dust infinitely more than the WoH and that’s a pretty wild thing to consider. More nuance and weird tone play in the grooves, with some real punctuation with the repeating loop Trey uses to go into what sounds to me like a slowed psych version of I Wanna Be Your Dog. But agree, last night somehow topping a few of my favs from last year and that’s saying something.
