People measure the passage of time in many ways but I know I’m getting older because HOW is this credit card-sized thing also a 4TB storage drive
@settern true but we used to measure in MB back in the olden times. 🦖
@settern It would be a bit bulkier with a similar bumper, to be fair, but ... yeah 😄
@settern wow, that’s awesome !!! I’ve always wondered what makes the LaCie drives so common, what do you think?
@settern My friend keeps an old HDD around just to show it off. It’s a dual-height 5.25” drive (that is, it filled 2 drive bays), holds 8MB, and was state of the art in its time.
@settern LaCie rugged 👌🏾

@settern I kind of miss the big "bumpers" on old school storage!

Early fire wire devices had some funk aesthetics!

@TSindelar @settern The time of FireWire was the consolidation of so many legacy connectors, and the beginning of so many new variants we are saddled with now - the simple connector and the ‘modern’ case designs with silicone bumpers is sorely missed:

I cracked a new battery 30 seconds after I opened it last week 😮‍💨

@settern I still can't get over 1TB microSD cards... hoooooow? My first USB memory stick was 256MB.
@BenjaminNelan I know! It breaks my brain a bit.
@settern My first computer had 16Kb of RAM and no HD.....just a tape drive.
@settern Oh is the orange one a rust-powered spinning thing? Yeah, stuff's gotten smaller :-D
