I don't know what I expected from a work slack channel called #onlyfans
@olivvybee @hober Technically, isn't a turbine the opposite of a fan? 🤔
@tilde they have a motor that gets them started so I guess briefly they act as a regular fan
@olivvybee Oh my gosh I didn't know this! I love this fact, thank you!
@tilde *technically it's not really a motor, because a generator and a motor are just the same thing in reverse - but basically they're too heavy to start just from the wind alone, so they run backwards until they're generating power
@olivvybee Do they feed from the grid for this, or is there a battery in there with enough juice to get them up to speed?
@tilde I'm not sure about that but I'd guess it comes from the grid just to simplify it a bit (if there was a battery and it completely drained, they wouldn't be able to start the turbine)
@olivvybee That makes me think that if there's a big grid interruption, it might be tough to cold-start those turbines again?
@tilde I should ask at work on Monday instead of speculating I will find the answers!
