I don't know how the US can square the circle of having a tolerant, cosmopolitan, pluralist society when there’s a sizable minority that wants everyone to live under a Christian version of the Taliban. It's like Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde, depending on who wins the gerrymandered elections.

Something I learned about over the weekend, a wonderful pun on Wikipedia is at risk of extinction. If it happens though it'll be for the right reasons at least.

On the "List of Cetaceans" page they have what you'd expect, against each whale in the list is a picture or drawing. Where they have neither they have "[cetacean needed]" which is a glorious pun!

They're down to one remaining, if someone is able to document Deraniyagala's beaked whale in the wild it'd be great news for conservation, but a sad day for puns.

Well shite. But after the battering we had last week to come out and play like that. Heartbreaking but inspiring 💚

Fair play to France. Well done Ireland.

🧵 Since the shooting of #CharlieKirk, radical Republicans have been pushing violence-inciting claims about the shooter. The police have not apprehended the person and don't know his name.

We don't know what the motive is, however, I think given the miasma of claims that "of course" a left-winger or trans person did it, it's worth exploring why the shooter very easily could be a right-wing extremist.

"trans ideology" is Nazi speak.

The ideology of trans people is "trans people have a right to exist".

"antifascist ideology" is Nazi speak.

The ideology of antifascists is "Nazis are bad".

Somehow it's only been 9 months. It feels like 9 years already

The "civil rights era" never ended. You are still in it.

Black people are still asking for exactly the same things that they asked for in the 1960s: police reform, voting rights, and fair access to employment.

And the exact same proportion of white US voters oppose it with both votes and violence.
