Since I discovered @orbite i am realy fascinated by #WPAP and I wanted to give it a try...
Modesty is for wimps so i start as small as possible with noone else than @georgetakei but i feel like butchering a realy good looking man Dexter Morgan style...
On the other hand it feels like putting him in a Spiderman Suit wich does not feel as bad any more... I am learning a lot about facial Anatomy and I think I could have made worse decisions for inspiration :) #Allegiance

So... this is what you get when you have no real clue about how to create aesthetics, anatomy, colors or even shadows...

Sorry @georgetakei
I guess you have to do give a comission to @orbite if this should go looking anywhere close to the reference and the orgiginals ;)

@memoriesin8bit I guess I only have three options:
a) stick to my normal doodles and paint by numbers books b) way more practicing and studying #WPAP
c) start cheating for better results but #noai allowed

@blackcoffeerider @georgetakei @orbite Wut? This looks awesome!

@orbite

thank you <3

I learned some more things yesterday by observing your work:

1) meaningful tile shading that is "more natural" is essential
2) Tiling is not random - neither in shape or color
3) sub-tile "microdetailing" is important
4) "tiles" don't have to be real clear cut geometric shapes - the tiles are more a "topological thing"
5) getting a gool pallete is an art in itself...

With parts of that in mind here is my next itteration...

I'm using an iPad when outlining with a magic pen. Not always a sharp tool is chosen, sometimes a brush. At the end, I render everything in a rast format and then rast back to vector format with automatic pixel tracking, I get more slimy acne and clear edges with curved gradient transitions, similar to the effect of painting with paint. In the end, I tweak the color, contrast, I muffle, etc.
