This statement is from a court document submitted by Apple's lawyers regarding the App Store data privacy class action lawsuit:

"Given Apple’s extensive privacy disclosures, no reasonable user would expect that their actions in Apple’s apps would be private from Apple."

@mysk ah yes. "privacy. that's apple" my beloved
@mysk wait what
@timClicks Yes, it's Apple's lawyers who said this. 🤯
@mysk @timClicks the meaning might change if you put it back into context. What exactly is the context here? It’s a bit confusing to me....
@elnecesario @mysk The reasonable person test in Common Law (ex British) legal systems is a way to say everybody, minus people that the legal system doesn't want to consider.

@timClicks @mysk
The possible context is mentioned after the highlighting: <<(allegation that consumers "cannot be expected to know that chat conversations with customer service agents are generally recorded is objectively unreasonable").>>
Now, is your highlighted statement used in another way or is it bound to this specific situation of the allegation?

To me this reads as it’s just about chat with apple support…

@mysk No reasonable user would expect that their actions in Apple's apps would be private from Apple. No reasonable user would expect that their actions in Google's apps would be private from Google. No reasonable user would expect that their actions in Windows apps would be private from Microsoft.

No reasonable user would expect that their actions are private until confirmed otherwise.
@mysk This rings true with my general vibe of the Apple privacy brand, which goes as follows:
1. On Android, your private information will increasingly be sold to anyone
2. On iOS, only Apple knows and uses your private information for their own purposes.
@mysk I appreciate them reminding us all that *none* of these massive, datasuck corporations, not even Daddy Apple, are gonna protect your privacy or even treat you like a person
@mysk If anyone else wants to double check, case is here. Document 122 as shown in screenshot, "MOTION to Dismiss Consolidated Complaint; Memorandum of Points and Authorities in Support Thereof filed by Apple, Inc."
