FYI for Viki users. They’re doing 30% off subscriptions right now. I was on their monthly plus plan for $9.99/mo.- was able to switch to annual plan (reg $99) and use promo code YEAROFTHEDRAGON30 (plus they refund partial month previous subscription) so paid $64 for an entire next year. Quite a savings from $9.99/mo. Since most other streaming services are increasing prices and I know many of us use Viki- I thought I would pass this along (this works for US not sure for other countries?)

"this works for US not sure for other countries"

The one time I tried to buy a Viki Pass, it wouldn't even let me create an account, despite my trying through multiple different VPNs. Geoblocking remains a serious problem for much East Asian content here in Aotearoa, which is why I don't tend to access it via streaming services

@ronsboy67 Sorry to hear that. Geoblocking is such an annoying thing. I’m embarrassed to say I had to look up where Aotearoa was. New Zealand!! I’ve always thought that would be a wonderful place to live- hiking, ocean, adventure.
@notthatkaren The "clean, green" myth has been well promoted for sure. Aotearoa/NZ has many problems, but I 'd rather live here than elsewhere - even if the physically adventurous activities its renowned for are beyond me. And having lived here since birth, I'm embarrassed that I'm only now starting to learn the first language spoken on these islands. Here's a lovely song that celebrates the land and the language - hopefully not geoblocked 😀 #Aotearoa #turangawaewae

@ronsboy67 Wow, that song and video set off all my travel fever and wanderlust. Though I couldn’t understand the language, it seemed to convey (to me at least) a strong sense of pride and happiness.
@notthatkaren I don't yet understand much of it either - even though part of it is the opening of the national anthem 😀

Thanks for sharing! It seems that at least in recent years, #Aotearoa has done a better job of recognizing and supporting its #FirstPeoples. When I visited the #Hualien in #Taiwan, our guide said that the Indigenous peoples in that region shared a lot of DNA and cultural/language characteristics with the #māori including a custom of facial tattoos.
@EllenInEdmonton @notthatkaren All Polynesians are descendants of indigenous people from Taiwan. A famous Māori writer (the writer of "Whale Rider", and a member of the same tribe as my wife's maternal family) talked about being asked for directions when in Taiwan by someone who assumed he was indigenous. 😀
@ronsboy67 @notthatkaren there are browser add-ons that will re-geolocate you to somewhere else in the world. One of them is Location Guard. They are available in Android (don't know about Apple) also.
@dlupham @notthatkaren As I mentioned in my original comment, Viki denied me access despite my using VPNs - I tried more than one and in different browsers. I have used VPNS for many years and am familiar with masking my location, but many streaming providers take countermeasures. If

@notthatkaren the #Viki yearly plan in my country is less expensive, just 5€/month.
