Watching the #TuckerCarlson interview with #Putin out of curiosity. Not yet 5 minutes into it and Carlson says that the year 862 was the 8th century. This is not in the live interview but in the short notice before. They could have done it again and again.

Doesn’t he know any better? Is there no professional team around him that could correct him?!

Wait, did #Putin just say in 1939 #Poland cooperated with #NaziGermany and didn’t even mention the #Hitler-#Stalin-Pact that divided Poland among #Germany and #USSR?! And #TuckerCarlson doesn’t intervene like this was the most ordinary thing to say?!

"Hitler offered Poland peace" This is disgusting! I don’t think Putin would dare to propagate such lies to German journalists. We know our stuff.

Later Putin indeed mentions the "Molotov–Ribbentrop treaty" but it sounds like this was a diplomatic initiative to restore Russias territory that had been taken from them.

And yeah, there are some "claims" of certain "violations of human rights" during the regime of #Stalin. The whitewash of #Russia|s history goes so far to renounce criticism of Stalin like he was a great leader that, you know, some might say maybe just had a few minor issues!

#TuckerCarlson for the third time tries to make the point that if this was all #Russia|s natural right to do, e.g. to restore historic territory, than why did he wait for 22 years to start the war in #Ukraine?

What kind of answer did he expect? "#Putin was so gracious and patient" to wait another 20 years"? This completely adopts Putins framing. The relevant question is not about time but about legitimacy!

Also the #UkraineWar began in 2014 and wasn’t Putins first one. Does Carlson even know?

Now poor German politician #EgonBahr (rest in peace) is taken to serve #Putin|s agenda. In the 1990s some could even imagine #Russia joining #NATO. Bahr always strived for more cooperation. But of course, #Putin repeats the long refuted lie that there had been this final agreement that NATO must never extend to the east. Sure Carlson doesn’t reject that. Instead he says: "I think it’s fair point" 🤦‍♂️
For long times #Putin can explain his propaganda version of how things in #Ukraine developed. It's clearly in favor of Russia, no surprise, but #TuckerCarlson just listens for minutes and doesn't correct blatant lies, complement Putin's perspective with other facts or asks serious questions. "Poor #Russia" was betrayed by Ukraine not following the #MinskAgreements? Well, although a huge diplomatic effort it had failed from the start and was violated by all parties.

At ~1h: #Putin repeats the false accusation of president #Selensky honoring a Ukrainian former #SS fighter. #TuckerCarlson should know better that the president of the parliament of #Canada surprisingly introduced that person.

After all this is part of Putins many minutes long tirade to justify the whole war on #Ukraine in 2022. The mentioned incident in Canada was in 2023. Carlson is so badly prepared and his interviewing style so depressingly weak in the face of strong rhetorician Putin! 😔

#TuckerCarlson allows #Putin to portray himself as rational politician who only does what’s necessary and like he wasn’t in control of the war. HE could stop the war right now.

"Just stop delivering weapons and the war will be over in a few weeks" might sound like a simple political solution to the #USA but it actually means surrendering the nation of #Ukraine and delivering the fate of the Ukrainians to the Russian aggressor.

I’m totally baffled about this "interview" by #TuckerCarlson 😮 Is this the cutting edge of journalism the #USA can send?

He has no control over the interview at any point. He asks random questions whenever #Putin stops his endless lectures. The most exposing moment is that it’s actually #Putin ending the interview, several topics after Carlson announced his "last question".

More than half the time is Carlson with this exact face having a hard time passively following Putins lectures.

I actually learned 2 things from the interview:

1 Another type of lies #Putin tells to the US. Some of his takes wouldn’t work for Germany. He carefully shapes his story to let the US think he was harmless and they shouldn’t be bothered by #Ukraine.

2. #TuckerCarlson asks Putin about his Christianity. Both the question and Putins answer are shockingly superficial but Putin blatantly confirms he doesn’t believe in any God—although he seeks #Russia|n identity from and is supported by #Orthodoxy
