New York City is like Linux

* Spend the first year re-learning how to perform basic tasks
* Spend the rest of your lifetime claiming how much better it is
* Bad drivers

@dgar An excellent summary! Except that you misspelled "enjoying" as "claiming".

Not sure where you got "bad drivers" from.

Anyway, gotta go drink the 8,763rd coffee I've bought with the money I've saved through never having to pay for software licences.

@kauer @dgar
I drive an 18 wheeler into and out of the city relatively often. In my experience, NYC drivers are generally careful and courteous, and will usually let me merge into traffic with a minimum of fuss. There are exceptions, of course, but that is true everywhere.

@dgar Having lived in NYC for 9 years, yeah, that sounds about right.

Except that using Linux is something I can still afford to do.

@rantingsteve 🀭✌️
@dgar
The Linux people puzzled me until I read this. But I understand New Yorkers, so now it makes sense.
@dgar
For the record though, NY drivers are aggressive. Boston drivers are bad.
@dgar As an avid Linux user, I hate this! Reluctantly favorited 😜
@dgar
Its nice for a holiday, but I wouldn't want to live there...
@dgar @lisamelton underfunded public infrastructure everybody relies on and too many fascists… wait, you might have found the perfect metaphor.
@dgar Well, in my case, I was born there, so that first year was spent, not re-learning basic tasks, but learning them for the first time. :D
@gcvsa @dgar It's like my first computer was an Amiga, so linux was just a more advanced version of that.
@dgar More RAT options, at least.
@dgar can't say the bad drivers one anymore except for novideo... i use linux to bring back to life tech that's broken on other systems. even printers (old and new), never usable on windows or macos, don't even have to add the printer on linux its just automatically there
@dgar you forgot dollar pizza which is the only reason I use Linux anyway
@dgar what you’re referring to as new york is actually upstate/new york
@dgar At least my graphics driver is about 50% less likely to crash than the Windows one my friends have to deal with πŸ˜›
@dgar Never been. I don't go to the US on my own money 'cos of the guns, and business travel in my trade died when someone invented the internet.
