Update. 9-year-old got Kelly's old TI-83. It's like getting the family lightsaber.

@ZachWeinersmith

At least no TI calculator was used to murder Younglings. As far as we know.

@ZachWeinersmith @paper_clip arguably thatโ€™s all theyโ€™re used for ๐Ÿ˜ž
@ZachWeinersmith reminds me of my grandpa giving me his old Casio PB-700 when I was 8 and his HP 28C a few years later; I felt really honored to receive his real actual tools, and I think they played a big role in getting deeply fond of programming.
@cvtsi2sd @ZachWeinersmith He must love you very much - I haven't given my HP calculators to my engineer sons ๐Ÿ™‚
@ZachWeinersmith I think I can still find my 83+, let's play bomberman.
@ZachWeinersmith time to learn to put their friend's names in a drug running rpg

@ZachWeinersmith
The real TI-83 never leaves you.

"Your mother's calculator. Not as clumsy or random as an iPhone.. An elegant computer. From a more civilized age..."
@ZachWeinersmith I use my grandfather's HP-41 every day.
@ZachWeinersmith There are three sides to the Force: TI, HP, and Casio.
@ZachWeinersmith engineer here.The more they learn about how to wield (purposeful choice of words ๐Ÿ˜‰) that device, the better they will do in school later on ๐Ÿ‘
@ZachWeinersmith In a few years you may show your kid TIโ€™s RPN calculators, if they still exist. RPN really clicked with me, and my TI 42S RPN (?) really was my lightsaber through high school and university.
