Why is the press silent about the welfare of the ~500,000 tech workers laid off since 2022?

Articles covered layoffs, but how are these people surviving in high cost-of-living cities & no income for months/years?

Tens of thousands of people are probably already homeless, maybe sleeping in their cars or worse.

Meanwhile, the media is like:

"Tens of thousands of people are probably already homeless"

This is an extreme deductive leap given the economic situations of the people you're talking about.

It's not what usually happens for professionals making six figures with good benefits after they get laid off with severance in an economy with a 3.7% unemployment rate.

They often have savings, retirement savings, spouses, family money, professional networks; can move, can find a new job, etc.
