This is the kind of thing Biden should have done from the beginning, preferably around the time the IDF was using white phosphorus.

Edit: I was wrong. See response by Bilal below.

US sanctions Israeli settlers over West Bank violence - BBC News

The US president sanctions four Israeli settlers accused of attacking Palestinians.

@tofugolem I’m afraid I’ll stand by what I said back then: https://kolektiva.social/@bifouba/111691703607670536

You all understand that the US and EU talking about travel bans for “extremist” Israeli settlers is the OPPOSITE of holding Israel to account, right? Whereas Palestinians are assigned collective guilt for the actions of individuals, these visa bans are an attempt at individualising blame for Israeli state crimes. That's why Western leaders have no problem with them and there is absolutely no "tough love" here, but collusion with the Israeli propaganda narrative. These measures actually allow them to DEFLECT criticism of Israel: nothing wrong with the polity or its policies, if there is anything to criticise let's put all the blame on a handful of "bad apple" extremist settlers and ignore how, far from representing an aberration, their actions are systematically condoned, endorsed, aided and abetted by Israeli politicians, the judiciary, and the army. #Palestine #Gaza @[email protected]

@bifouba
Fair point.
@tofugolem @bifouba I have to agree with Bilal. Putting sanctions on a total of 4 people means nothing and I'm not sure why it got a big headline.
@athyrium @bifouba
Considering how biased the American media is, and considering history, even this inadequate gesture represents a seismic shift.
@tofugolem @bifouba The media will play it up as a seismic shift, but unless he follows it up with more, it really isn't.

@athyrium @bifouba
Up untill very recently, even this tepid response was unthinkable for either political party.

I agree that this is not enough, but considering what I have seen in the American discourse over the past several decades, I hope this is an indication of things moving in a positive direction.

@tofugolem @athyrium Not entirely: https://www.cfr.org/backgrounder/kach-kahane-chai-israel-extremists

It was under Biden that the Kahanists were removed from the US list of terrorist groups in 2022.
