US: attention, Trader Joe’s shoppers, the TJ’s union wants to know how many people will support a strike of this union busting food chain.

They are *not* calling for a boycott at this time. Random boycotts only make things harder for workers (low sales can lead to layoffs). They’re asking for solidarity.

Stand with Trader Joe’s United! Sign on in Solidarity >>

Trader Joe’s management has continued its intense union-busting tactics at every store that's filed for a union election and refuses to bargain in good faith with its workers. Meanwhile, Trader Joe’s crew members at stores across the country are unionizing to fight for the pay, benefits, and safe working conditions that match Trader Joe’s “progressive” image. As Trader Joe’s management doubles down on union-busting ― we need to double down on our people power. One of the best ways to do this is when folks like you, Trader Joe’s customers, use the power of the purse to show Trader Joe’s you won’t shop there until it becomes a workplace that actually reflects the values they claim to have. We haven’t asked customers to boycott Trader Joe’s, but as their union-busting attempts increase, we need to know how many customers will stand with us in the fight for a fair contract. We’re asking folks to support Trader Joe’s United by signing on in solidarity and letting us know you’ll stand with us if we call for a customer strike! >>

This thing asks for donations and signs you up for frequent Email pitches. You can unsubscribe though.

@thorncoyle

I posted a bit too soon -- you can't simply unsubscribe, because this also gives your Email address to other "ActionNetwork.org" Email lists. I just got one from Social Security Watch, which I am 100% sure I had no contact with before. I tried correcting my Email address within the Action Network system to a false one: maybe that will work.

@thorncoyle @lisamelton For those who are concerned about putting your email address, it’s not going to use it for confirmation. Your name will still go on the list, just use a fake address. I haven’t gotten anything untoward from it tho.
@thorncoyle Haven't shopped there for a bit. My closest one closed. But if they were really fair, we might go to the next closest one!
@thorncoyle oh, this is news to me, but my brother works for TJs, so here's hoping!!! I absolutely will support him and the other employees.

@thorncoyle Is there some sort of connection between ALDI and TJ?

There's the sort of items that are often 'supermarket-brand', such as various prepackaged nuts, with Trader Joe's branding in my local ALDI.

@riley @thorncoyle There are two different ALDI companies, ALDI South and Aldi North. Both were founded by two brothers but after a breakup they separated in two companies. ALDI South is ALDI in the US and Aldi North is TJ in the US.

@gumbario Interesting. Which is the ALDI in Germany?

@thorncoyle

@riley @thorncoyle ALDI North only covers the northern part of Germany, and ALDI South covers only the southern part. That’s why they are named like that. They do not compete with each other and collaborate in marketing and purchasing of goods. Germany and the USA are the only countries where both companies exist. For example: UK and Australia got ALDI South and France got ALDI North.

@gumbario Thanks! I'll make a point to shop at EDEKA or Penny rather than ALDI, then, if a TJ strike should come.

@thorncoyle

@thorncoyle I am a customer and will not cross a picket line but I am not getting on a mailing list.

@thorncoyle
Well, I support a strike, but I don't have access to a Trader Joe's, don't shop at their online site (if they have one) and have never encountered a product of theirs I like... So I certainly can't contribute to a boycott!
