I'm very happy that every court case in Houston brought against people for feeding unhoused people "without permission" has failed, up to and including this one where every potential juror said they would find for the defendant… but I'm still pretty upset that the city keeps bring the cases at all.

@Wolven An example of institutions providing (temporary?) defense against fascism.
@Wolven Absolutely. That surely must have a chilling effect on people helping unhoused people, which is probably why they're doing it?

@Zumbador @Wolven 50/50 hatred towards other human beings in need and for legal reasons.

I think the legal reasons (liability and whatever else) should be resolved so helping people is legal.

@breadbin @Wolven

"helping people should be legal"

What a world we live in that that phrase even needs to be said.

@Zumbador @Wolven I could say obvious stuff all day, yet there’s large groups who opposes them all. It’s a world alright:/

@Wolven The one argument I’ve heard is about liability. If you go to a restaurant, and you eat there, and you get sick, they are on the hook.

Which is why giving away food is “controversial”, and why food stores and restaurants are kinda scared of it.

I do *not* think that’s an argument for not feeding those in need, it’s an argument that laws and regulations needs to be addressed so this isn’t an issue and people can get fed. Throwing it away *is* a waste, and cruel.

Legalize empathy.
