just so you know, i'll be tooting relentlessly about #TacticalVoting

Hope that's ok, hope that's why you followed me :)

It's the simplest way to win the next election.

No one can stop you doing it.

Nobody has to negotiate anything.

Are you with me? 🙌

And then we switch to relentlessly telling the next government what we came for: #ProportionalRepresentation

That's it. That's the plan.

@joshfwd please toot from behind a CW. I'll expand and read as that's of interest to me.

Many won't. Many might want you up against the wall. Don't tramp mud across the host's lounge carpet.

@icenijay that would put 90% of my content behind a wall. I’m working that one out.

@joshfwd I'd still read it. So would anyone else who is interested in your word.

I have begun to understand that its just being polite towards those who occupy this space who may, for reasons beyond our understanding, not want to doomscroll.

@icenijay you seem to be suggesting all posts go behind a content warning?

@joshfwd nope.

Anything that requires intellectual consideration. Politics, religion etc should automatically go behind a CW.

Pets, inspiring pictures, positive collaboration etc don't necessarily need to be behind a CW because they will elicit a happy reaction.

@icenijay you said please toot behind a content warning, so that’s how I read it! 😅

What you meant is, please toot ‘this’ behind a content warning.

I’m going to struggle with this, since you’re essentially saying that the content I post should be behind a content warning. I’m barely ever not going to be posting about politics.

Probably easiest if people that don’t want that don’t follow me.

Which is exactly what my original post was about.

@joshfwd there's a function here that allows people to automatically expand content warnings.

If you automatically hide your non-funny / non-entertaining posts behind a content warning, they will see them normally.

If you were (tacitly) invited into a house party, would you proudly announce your sociopolitical or religious views from a prominent place in the middle of the venue?

@icenijay @joshfwd I understand it’s not called Content Warning anymore but Content Wrapper instead. 😉

@icenijay the party I’m in is one people have followed me to be part of.

So I’m not sure that analogy follows.

@joshfwd there's more than one party going on here dude 👍
@joshfwd will be following because completely agree - but suggest this might be where the CW courtesy might be applied as it’s another one of those blood pressure issues for some!!
@ajad_d it’s going to be 99% of my content, so that’ll be tricky!
@joshfwd that’s ok people can just chose to have CW off .

@ajad_d I wish there was an option to have cw on by default, to reduce a) my workload, and b) the chance of forgetting.

It would also be nice to be able to add a cw to toots one boosts, though I see that that could be abused as a kind of quote-toot.

@KimSJ I wonder if that’s worth suggesting to the server operator? I think the influx of Twitter users will drive more content that in usual Mastadon world requires a CW so maybe that is an addition. They do ask for suggestions? It could be helpful to lots of people?
@joshfwd is that chart still accurate? Tory’s are way down arnt they ?
@JohnnyD in current polling they’re way down! This chart is the actual votes they all won last time there was a chance to vote at a national general election.
@joshfwd
Spot on! One battle at a time.
First battle: #GTTO
@joshfwd
I would advice a CW heading and profuse use of #.
#PR
#GTTO
#VoteTactically

@mikewrigley see my other replies.

My whole timeline is going to be this. I can’t put every one of my posts behind a CW, so best not to follow unfortunately.

Unless there’s a strategy for campaigning here that I’ve not seen yet!

@mikewrigley @joshfwd what is a CW heading?

@JaneTomlinson @joshfwd
The CW sign at the bottom - Content Warning.

Etiquette for mastodon is that some people may not be interested in your topic - politics is a common one, apparently - so it's "polite" to have a CW heading that shows the topic (it's what people will see). They can click on the "see more" if they want to read it.

@mikewrigley @joshfwd Got it! Many thanks for taking the time to tell me.
@joshfwd great plan, love it and totally on board with it
@joshfwd Have to wonder what you want the Tories replaced with. Agree they need to go but there is no major party with very different policies and views to replace them. We’re stuck between a rock anc a hard place.
@RevolutionBlues @joshfwd perhaps PR will create the environment for a new party to be born, that then stands a real chance of being elected?
@F1fty @joshfwd But who is going to bring in PR. Will only happen if there’s no majority.
Keir Starmer defies call for changes to first past the post voting system

The Labour leader said electoral reform was not a priority and refused to make it one of the party’s election manifesto pledges

The Guardian
@RobinKey @F1fty @joshfwd
They like to ignore the actual evidence.
@F1fty @RevolutionBlues @joshfwd have labour actually shown any interest in pr though? It would reduce their power and importance forever so why would a labour govt or labour led coalition ever agree to bring it in?
@sarky @F1fty @joshfwd No they haven’t. That was my point.

@RevolutionBlues @sarky @F1fty yes they have, see my thread https://twitter.com/joshfwd/status/1561702849985257472

They voted for it at conference.

Josh Russell @MVTFWD #LetsFixIt on Twitter

“Labour’s support for Proportional Representation. A short thread 🧵 83% of members 79% conf delegates in 2021 63% Labour voters 51% local Labour groups (CLPs) so far (97% of local groups who debate it, support it) 52% of the public (17% oppose) Unions with a conf vote… /1”

Twitter
@joshfwd @sarky @F1fty I know they voted for it at conference. But Starmer doesn’t abide by what is decided at conference. He’s shown that.
@sarky @RevolutionBlues @joshfwd good point, hadn’t looked at it like that. Turkeys voting for Christmas. If only political parties were not involved in deciding the electoral system eh.

@F1fty @sarky @RevolutionBlues huge support across Labour for PR, all the way up to half of the shadow cabinet.

It’s our job to keep telling them we want it. That’s what this is all about.

I have a Twitter thread listing all the support. https://twitter.com/joshfwd/status/1561702849985257472

@joshfwd @F1fty @sarky Who in the shadow cabinet is for PR?
@RevolutionBlues @F1fty @sarky why would it matter to you, when you think they’re all the same
@joshfwd @F1fty @sarky
I don’t think all parties are the same. That is ludicrous. I said their views are the same. As we have seen re immigration, re nurses pay, etc.
@RevolutionBlues @F1fty @sarky I mean, still not true. Anyway, I’ll leave it there. Good luck to you.

@RevolutionBlues I want them replaced with not fascists. Pretty simple. Then I want those not fascists to give us proportional representation.

All parties are not the same.

@joshfwd I don’t want them replaced by authoritarians like Starmer and co. Look what he’s been doing within Labour and imagine how much worse he would be with real power.
@RevolutionBlues suggesting all/both parties are the same is a line for me. Good bye 🙌
@joshfwd
Didn’t say that. But you obviously only want to hear from those who agree with you. I’m not a sheep.
@RevolutionBlues you said you didn’t want fascists replaced with authoritarians. Read that back to yourself, look around, and have a rethink.
@joshfwd I did. Doesn’t mean I think the parties are the same. Or they shouldn’t be. But I am more afraid of Labour’s leadership than I am of the Tories.
I also barely survive on pension credit so I need a government which will help me and millions like me. No major party is offering that.
We will only get real change if we reject the main parties. I wish more people could see that. If they were forced into coalitions we might have some hope.

@RevolutionBlues well until you have a plan that is better than not voting, how about rereading my original post.

Waiting, crossing your fingers, and not doing anything it takes to remove fascists is not a plan.

And now, I will leave it there.

@joshfwd Who said I was not voting? You however are obviously not paying attention to the words and deeds of the Labour leadership.
