Love this toothpaste label - let's roll it out across all products
@infobeautiful perfect example of a responsible product.
@jjBlue @infobeautiful should be made into an international labeling standard imho
@jjBlue @infobeautiful Except for the palm oil. But the label is surprising and really worth to use on other products.
@infobeautiful good thing "babies" isn't anywhere in that middle column
@infobeautiful don't be coy, what good old british brand is it & where can i get some?
@gavinho @infobeautiful I was also curious, I think it’s Kingfisher, who I hadn’t herd of before, here’s who stocks it: https://www.kingfishertoothpaste.co.uk/wheretobuy.html#stockists
Kingfisher Toothpaste

@shivers @infobeautiful thanks for that, holland & barrett, shame the aloe vera & tea tree doesn't have the fluoride option, might even try the strawberry
@shivers @gavinho @infobeautiful yes it's Kingfisher. We have those toothpastes and like that labelling. Can buy 10 tubes through their website and get free shipping. (Other retailers are available).
@infobeautiful wow, that's impressive. In Germany it's more like "giant list of chemicals you have never heard of and even google has trouble to find"

@infobeautiful

I want similarly detailed ā€œEmissions Factsā€ labels on anything (car, truck, lawnmower, leafblower, generator, motorcycle, etc) that burns fossil fuels. Should’ve become law 50 years ago.

@infobeautiful

Ingredient: Butylated Hydroxytoluene

Where it comes from: The depths of hell

What it does: an antioxidant additive in jet fuels, electrical transformer oil, and breakfast cereal

@infobeautiful Good Labelling is good advertising, and garners trust.

Business is the act of offering quality products and trust at a reasonable price.

@infobeautiful Love it. In which country is it?
@infobeautiful I see some taxonomy issues in that label...
@infobeautiful @Kayla That's really cool! And smart of them, makes the big scary chemicals all-natural.
@infobeautiful @hejsna That's the best label I've seen of its kind! Very impressive.

@infobeautiful

I would have marked Fennel as "Death Taste" but otherwise an awesome implementation.

@infobeautiful Also: Limonene is just fun to say.
@infobeautiful
Recently found out the toothpaste I was using wasn't just not gluten free, but they literally would not say what other materials might contaminate the toothpaste. There definitely needs to be more regulation on informing customers about what's in them.
@josh
@infobeautiful @donaldball tag urself, I’m ā€œmoistenerā€
@infobeautiful suckers, now I can make homemade toothpaste!
@infobeautiful Fennel. I was wondering why my toothpaste tasted so gross lately, I'll bet this has been added to mine as well.
@infobeautiful This is awesome, though I'm pretty curious how sodium monofluorophosphate comes from calcium fluoride.
@zeborah @infobeautiful And why. My guess would be it's a less effective alternative to fluorides so they can pander to antivax asshats saying "fluoride free" while still kinda protecting your teeth...

@dalias @zeborah @infobeautiful "Compared to straight fluorides, sodium monofluorophosphate has slightly less aftertaste."

en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sodium_m…

Sodium monofluorophosphate - Wikipedia

@dalias @zeborah @infobeautiful Calcium fluoride has very poor solubility compared to the sodium fluorides. Sodium MFP is one of the three standard sodium fluorides approved in the US for cavity fighting, especially commonly used in toothpastes with baking soda.
@dan131riley @zeborah @infobeautiful Well of course you don't put it in toothpaste bound up with calcium. CaF is just the mineral source they're citing. NaF or something would be the alternative to the MFP.
@infobeautiful
Never use Fluoride , It's highly toxic..
@GatekeepKen @infobeautiful [edit: reply to now unavailable conspiracy/misinfo toot] it literally is not, in the forms in which you encounter it in water and toothpaste. It prevents tooth decay, and tooth decay causes heart disease. And you know, losing teeth.
You've been had by online nonsense.
@noodlemaz @infobeautiful
Look noodle brain. Do some fucking homework. Read the warning on the back of fucking toothpaste. Why do you think companines are advertising No Flouride. Wake the hell up jr.

@GatekeepKen
Blocked for insulting speech and spreading disinformation.

@noodlemaz @infobeautiful

@GatekeepKen @noodlemaz @infobeautiful

Not a single large, accredited, respected scientific and or medical institution the world over involved in dental or general health care recommends against using fluoride to help maintain healthy teeth.

Your claims are the worst of paranoid conspiracy hallucinations.

Don't be a dupe, Ken.

@GatekeepKen @infobeautiful False

At the levels in toothpaste, fluoride is proven safe, and effective.

@GatekeepKen
Virtually everything is bad for you at a high enough dose, including water. I don’t know why you’ve fallen down the fluoride rabbit hole, perhaps an overdose of patriotism?

@markmevans

You clearly follow Trump...fuck off moron.

@infobeautiful
Palm oil? WTF
Don't post this shit.
@infobeautiful Okay, but what is "Aqua"? It comes from "Purified Water"? I can't think of anything that comes from Purified Water except Water. That's what makes it Purified.
@infobeautiful What is aqua and how is it derived from water?
@infobeautiful I love this and think it has lots of potential in the current battle to increase science literacy.
@infobeautiful KY-Jelly wouldn’t have anything in the Fresh Taste column.
@infobeautiful love it that water is "aqua" because... Latin?
@infobeautiful Ooh which toothpaste is that? It doesn't seem to contain any sweetener, which my formerly-favourite toothpaste now does (framed as "improved taste")
@infobeautiful For anyone curious I found the company that makes it: https://www.kingfishertoothpaste.co.uk/
Kingfisher Toothpaste

@infobeautiful Yeah, the problem with doing this on most toothpaste brands is that they'd have to have a line that says something like "plastic/refined crude oil/tricks idiots into thinking the toothpaste is magic". Whole industry is based entirely around persuading people that *your* tube of abrasive and fluoride is meaningfully better than someone else's tube of abrasive and fluoride, you can't go around explaining what you're doing.

@infobeautiful Though I though "Where it comes from" for Aqua was a bit unhelpful?

I guess aqua comes out of the public water supply in whatever location the factory is based....!

@infobeautiful This! I was curious for ages about these and other bizarre-named ingredients.

The only inconvenient is the rather small font (can't be helped); a QR code, pointing to a page with the complete information, would be useful.

@infobeautiful I just learned a lot about tooth paste...

Also can we discuss the Aqua part of the label? WTF šŸ¤” šŸ‘€ šŸ˜†

@infobeautiful wrong, aqua comes from Mac OS X!!11!11!!!
@Clygro @infobeautiful the Romans called and want a word with you over that
