I'm enjoying the @bookstodon.thestorygraph.com #JanuaryPagesChallenge a lot this year. Something about making sure I attend to reading (my favorite form of self-care) every day has been really nice.
@AdrianAsturAlvarez I need to get back into reading *daily*. Right now, I'm bogged down with research and I'm approaching burnout on it because it's a task, and not a leisure activity in a true sense...
@grayson well there's reading for work (Goethe, in my case) and reading for health (currently a *very* guilty pleasure for me with Flashman in the Great Game). You have to find balance. A good bathtub helps! 😂
@AdrianAsturAlvarez I do read LRB for pleasure, but that's mostly on the bus commute or Sunday morning if I get up too early for the breakfast spot to open.
@grayson it sounds like you really need to dumb it down lol don't you love mindless action movies? Plus as much as I love reading reviews there's no substitution for being directly transported.
@AdrianAsturAlvarez dude, you're talking to someone who has seen all four Expendables movies. I love a good trashy action film for a Friday night after work.
I read book reviews as much for the question of "this is it's own medium and artistic form" as "this is a CliffNotes version of the book and I don't need to read the book now."
@AdrianAsturAlvarez we're on heist films currently; watched Lucky Logan last weekend. Debating either La Cercle Rouge (French, 70s) or The Thieves (2012 Korean). I'm saving the original Oceans 11 and the redos for later.
@grayson there's never enough Melville... those films are great. As it's his main interest, I'm sure @mplsmatt could make some great heist film recs if you ever wanted one.
