@perkinsy remote work is amazing and any company or institution that says otherwise is being wilfully ignorant.

@abesamma @perkinsy "remote work is amazing and any company or institution that says otherwise is being wilfully ignorant."

As I read these words I am in an open office and my coworker 5m away is on a call with a booming voice, as he has been off and on since I got here

@waterbear @abesamma My sympathy! People in nearly every office experience the same annoyances. Last week my grizzle was about someone who decided it would be a great idea to bring his noisy mechanical keyboard into the office. I dealt with it by bagpipes: https://aus.social/@perkinsy/111729440184233616

I arrived in our hot-desking office nice and early and got my window seat. Then someone arrived about 45 minutes later, sat behind me and placed his mechanical keyboard in front of his laptop keyboard. HE HAS BEEN TYPING LOUDLY ALL DAY. Is there a cone of silence for users of mechanical keyboards? The sound is even louder and more annoying than my screaming tinnitus. For this reason alone I reckon people should be able to work 100% remotely. #office #mechanical_keyboards

@perkinsy the other 8% who were very unhappy work on Jira.
@perkinsy thanks for sharing! We've moved away from Jira in recent months/years (still use Confluence) but I've always enjoyed their progressive approach at remote work
@perkinsy I'm not sure if it still happens but I'm sure I heard something about them offering different rates of pay based on location. Hopefully they've stopped doing that
@perkinsy I always said return to office demands we're rooted in misogyny.
@perkinsy …Not the important part but if the employees are so satisfied, it makes me wonder whether they use Hipchat internally or just Slack
@perkinsy I keep hearing that companies deploy return to office instead of laying people off so that they don't have to pay severance. This report seems to add another important factor...
@alter_kaker I suspect that is exactly what is happening.
