For my non German-speaking followers: several hundred thousand people are in the streets today in Germany to protest against fascism following the uncovering of deportation plans for migrants, foreigners and non-conform Germans projected by the AfD party #noafd

@jknodlseder In the reporting I saw a woman carrying a "Er ist wieder da" sign. Says it all really... 😂
@wanwizard This is the title of a book that came out a few years ago, it’s really worth reading.
@jknodlseder I've seen the film, but I don't think that protester had book or film in mind when she wrote the text...
@jknodlseder Here we go again, hope sanity prevailes
@jknodlseder We need to do this in the USA to demand the ouster of the now fascist Republican Party. All judicial and administrative positions appointed by Trump should be removed. As should all legislators who voted against certifying the election.
@jknodlseder I hope this shows in the polls.
@jknodlseder About the same in France, with new anti-immigration laws, pushed by Macron governement without parliament consentement. Mainly student demoes against it.
@jknodlseder And several hundred thousand people were yesterday on the streets for the same reason!
@jknodlseder wait, are these people currently runnning Deutschland?
@graphite People are currently in the streets to avoid that
@jknodlseder meanwhile the current parliament passed a law just a few days ago to deport refugees more quickly, yet I don’t think most people attending those protests are aware of that. Of course what the AfD is doing is outstandingly horrifying, but the things the current government is doing are the kind of things that would’ve been seen as extreme AfD talking points just a few years ago. This is incredibly scary. But it’s kind of nice to see that so many people at least aren’t the biggest fans of the AfD, that people got out there to make it clear that they don’t think this is acceptable, to oppose this becoming normalized, rather than just immediately going “this sucks but nothing can be done about it” and doing not even the tiniest thing about it as that shit becomes further normalized
@jknodlseder I remember how during the mid 2010s when the AfD gained its power, when there were mobs of racists attacking refugees, the AfDs talking points looked an awful lot like this law, and the things written in this law, the things that are apparently treated by politicians as something everyone can agree on rn would’ve been regarded typical far-right AfD rhetoric. It’s so incredibly scary how fast this shit gets normalized. I wonder how many of those people who were on the streets think that deporting refugees is completely fine, who just think that the AfD is going a bit too far with wanting to deport citizens. I don’t trust them.
