It’s kinda weird to me to hear any doctor that insists on being referred to as “Doctor ____.”

I understand you spent a lot of time and money on your education to get to this point, but I hate the elitism associated with that. If you seek validation, look at your diploma.

@louie Depends on the context. If I'm in a clinic, then yes Doctor is fine. If I'm in the grocery store then it's not (unless there is a medical emergency, which there hasn't been)
@DevilDogDoc I'm really only interested in whether or not the person seemingly requires this title, regardless of environment. If they require it in either, I find it super offputting.

@louie In the clinical or hospital setting it's important to distinguish between members of the care team so that you know who is ultimately responsible for your care and what the specific roles and responsibilities are.

If a seemingly random set of people enter a patients room how does the patient know who is the doctor, nurse, nutritionist, physical therapist, etc, if they don't distinguish themselves by titles. That would be confusing and frustrating for the patient

@DevilDogDoc “Hi, I’m Lucy, your physician.” “Hey, I’m Jonathan, your Nutritionist.”

Wow, amazing! Introducing yourself!

@louie Imagine a group of patients coming in to your room and introduce themselves as john, Jane, Alex, Steve, Mary, etc. Which one of them is guiding treatment and the overall care of the patient, you wouldn't know because no one introduced themself as a doctor.

Outside of a clinical situation I find it off-putting unless someone asks what the individual does for work, which is a different scenario because the individual was asked directly
