From 1890-1930s, Ohio was at the center of an intercity transit revolution: the interurban electric. Interurbans were similar to the familiar streetcars, but were primarily designed to run between cities at speeds approaching 80 MPH.

go from New York to Chicago (and beyond!) via interurbans!

@mobileharv I think #interurbans are a vastly underrated form of #transportation. They were fully #electric, provided frequent service (even in small towns), could exceed highway speeds, had widespread service, and could easily shift from providing local intracity service to high speed intercity service. They're also one of the few forms of transit that could work in #rural areas (although theoretically, buses could too).
