Beware anyone who rushes to declare a new variant mild. Many did this for Omicron and got it badly wrong. Omicron turned out to be one of the most deadly waves for many countries At very least people should wait until a wave is well over before making any assessment. We also need to include the impact of Long COVID.

neutron_chick@luckytran It drives me bonkers to hear interviews with folks who work in health care and they say "we have no evidence that this variant is worse". Because the obvious follow up is "and we have no evidence that it isn't worse, so everyone should keep taking precautions and protect others in your community ". But they never say that! 🤬🤬 Double standards and wishful thinking are driving health messaging, and it's costing people their lives and their health 🤬🤬

Except for the increase in hospitalizations which kinda looks like evidence it's worse somehow... but we don't talk about that. The hospitalizations are only mild anyway. With mild ventilations. And mild deaths. And the deaths don't count because we won't put covid on the notes. So please go to a restaurant and celebrate this good news."
